One way to approach Fault Finding is using the 5 Point Fault Finding method. This approach can be used in many forms of Fault Finding not just electrical.

 

The basics of this approach are as follows:

  • Collect Information – ask and determine who, where, when and how the fault occurred

​

  • Analyse all of the collected data – based on previous experience and training the 'probable' cause of the fault can be determined

​

  • Investigate – based on the analysis find the actual fault

​

  • Fix the fault – the fault, once found, can be safely repaired

​

  • Test after fixing  – once the fault is corrected it is mandatory that testing should be performed
